    February 20

    in Everything Else

The date before the long dash. Today marks 69 years from the day Walter was born, and 1 year to the day of the launch of our first walterbeckermedia.com track, Were You Close Today:

Since then, we've shared seventeen tracks, lots of pictures, many stories, and a lot of love. There's More To Come, but today we're just going to pat ourselves on the back and nod appreciatively as we look back at a year's worth of data: you all streamed 42 days of Walter Becker outtakes on YouTube alone...not even counting plays on this site and a lot of downloads. None of this would exist if it weren't for you. Walter said time and time again, to audience after audience, that he KNEW he had the best fans in the world. Everyone of you that has come here, show up for a street naming, told a friend about Circus Money, downloaded a new track, posted in the forum, or pulled out that old Steely Dan album and given it another spin has helped to keep the memories we share of Walter fresh. Thank you. It means more than can be expressed here. We'll also do the thing we do every day. Miss the man. Last year we commemorated Walter with a new song, and there will be more of those in the days and years to come, but today I'm going to throw on 11 Tracks of Whack, follow it up with Circus Money, and appreciate everything Walter gave us.

Today I heard Peg in a Honey Farms Gas/Convenience store! Just giggled to myself. Bless you folks for this wonderful experience of continuance, it REALLY matters!

I'm just going to play my Artist->Walter Becker file since it has all of everything I have!!

Funny story: My daughter got in the car yesterday and asked me if Steely Dan was, like, really famous. I said that people who knew good music certainly knew who they were. A few minutes later she asked if Deacon Blues was a famous song. I said it was very popular when it was released, and has aged incredibly well. I tried to put it in context by saying Aja was up for Record of the Year at The Grammys when it was released, just like Childish Gambino, or Cardi B, or Drake, or Post Malone, or Lady Gaga are this year. Then she said there was a kid at her school named Deacon Blue Bustamante, and did I think he was named after the Steely Dan song. I think she was trying to reconcile her proximity to that kind of widespread impact. It just made me realize again how big Walter was, and how much he meant.

sorry guys, life got away from me and I missed the date to post this pic (which to be honest I had temporarily forgotten about {Edit: The pic, that is. The day, of course, did not slip my mind)). Life do have a way of messing with your plans (fear not... wbmedia will ride again! appreciate your patience).

Anyway, here you go. Happy birthday honey

there were three little books of captioned polaroids by studio project, that DaKine Dave made sure I looked for right away (thanx Dave): One for Whack, one for the Lost Tribe album (which i gave to them---hated to let it go, they were so great…but they were delighted to get it so…;_). But the 3rd project album was sort of empty, and a drag ;-)
