This track, elsewhere part of the mythical Slim's gig in San Francisco, is heard here as an in studio rehearsal with the following musicians:
Adam Rogers - Guitar
Fima Ephron - Bass
Ben Perowsky - Drums
John Beasley - Keyboards
Dave Russell - Engineer
Roger Nichols - Engineer
Ill wind bad intentions
Blowing crazy off the fire escape
Come on baby please shut the window
Give your sweet man a break
Now but you’re not even in my bed no
Or in the kitchen or on the phone
And thats how I come to find out
My good thing is up and gone
Say what am I to do
Jump up and chasing after you
Please remember if not now
Some day some way somehow
You're all I got Cinder Annie
I'm no good on my own
Ready or not Cinder Annie
Annie please come home
You know what I like Cinder Annie
So throw a dog a bone
Say you're coming back Cinder Annie
My Annie please come home
And who is that crying in the front room
Dancing crazy by candlelight
Oh yeah that's just my TV
I like to let it play all night
Sounded like your redheaded girlfriend
You remember she loves me
Maybe she could come over
Keep a lonely soul company
Looking good in that black knit dress
Help me tidy up this mess
Trying to hold the fortress down
Until you come around
In case you forgot Cinder Annie
I'm no good on my own
Ready or not Cinder Annie
My Annie please come home
You know what I like Cinder Annie
So throw a dog a bone
Say you're coming back Cinder Annie
My Annie please come home
Every night from dusk till dawn
Cat is going plants are gone
I don't know where we went wrong
So come on don't wait too long
In case you forgot got Cinder Annie
I'm no good on my own
Ready or not Cinder Annie
My Annie please come home
You know what I like Cinder Annie
So throw a dog a bone
Say you're coming back Cinder Annie
My Annie please come home
That seems like a big difference, Little Kawai instead of Cinder Annie. if he did swap inLittle Kawai, I think that would mean Cinder annie wasn't even heard at Slim's, making this rehearsal tape here theONLY Time this song was heard in public?. Moderator maybe can say. But that would be cool, a true world premiere of WB song! Which I like a lot by the way.
If I remember correctly, "Cinder Annie" wasn't actually played at the Slim's show. It was on the setlist, but "Little Kawai" was played instead. At the time I thought the title "Cinder Annie" was just shorthand for "Little Kawai", since "Cinder Annie" is mentioned in the lyrics of "Little Kawai".
Maybe someeles else who was there remembers differently...?
thanks for posting Cinder Annie. its solid Walter!
Awesome track! Thanks for sharing. Rodney Cave. 😎
As a fan of All Things Dan since 1973, the hidden gems from the Becker Vault, is highly appreciated, cannot wait to hear more of this. Makes me wonder why this haven´t been released before, as a solo thing or a in a Dan context.
How do you spell that? Chickity pow pow? Reminded me obliquely of the intro to "This Is It" by Loggins and McDonald.

Matt - I've listened to about a dozen takes and it wasn't on any others. But there are still a few I havent listened to.
Since the Cinder Annie character first made an appearance in the song Little Kawai, I always assumed it was based on a real person. It’s nice to hear that character get more fleshed out in this fabulous tune which I haven’t heard since the legendary 4/8/95 solo show. Thanks!
I agree Chris...that whistle solo is something! I love the contrast of the verse lyrics with the spoken bit at the end. He spends the whole song begging Cinder Annie to come back, only to pull back at the end (perhaps after she has returned) and tell her he never promised to pay the rent EVERY month, amongst others. Moderator, do you happen to know, or are you willing to divulge, if that spoken bit is present in any other iteration of the song? Like if there were multiple takes, did he do this or something like this on every take?
cool track. band sounds hot. no one writes changes like Becker, they come out of nowhere ...
how about that whistle solo?
Like I said before, walter was steely dan. Love it!
WBM, do you think we have a couple of shy bladdrs in here...?
