Matthew KernsMar 15, 2018This is my best attempt at the lyrics here:Well the bus pulled into townAnd I threw my stuff downAnd my feets off and running before my mouth hit the groundI came courting my fateI came ready to waitBut I guess I got lucky on the very first dateNow the days of alms have passedThere's no more rainbows to be hadNo silver linings shine down on meBut a monkey on a silver string ain't really all that badJust waitin' til my Jones comes down on meWell I was standing like thisAt the edge of the abyssWhen the truth came and snaked me with its steamy wet kissHe said you're all in the clearYou got nothing to fearYou just aim for the bottom, it's a straight shot from hereNow the days of alms have passedThere's no more rainbows to be hadNo silver linings shine down on meBut a monkey on a silver string ain't really all that badJust waitin' til my Jones comes down on me
Matthew KernsMar 15, 2018I'm going with that "days of alms have passed" mostly because I've seen it written that way in discussion of the Thomas Jefferson Kaye version. It could be "days have almost passed" or something like that, though.

Nice!
This is my best attempt at the lyrics here:
Well the bus pulled into town
And I threw my stuff down
And my feets off and running before my mouth hit the ground
I came courting my fate
I came ready to wait
But I guess I got lucky on the very first date
Now the days of alms have passed
There's no more rainbows to be had
No silver linings shine down on me
But a monkey on a silver string ain't really all that bad
Just waitin' til my Jones comes down on me
Well I was standing like this
At the edge of the abyss
When the truth came and snaked me with its steamy wet kiss
He said you're all in the clear
You got nothing to fear
You just aim for the bottom, it's a straight shot from here
Now the days of alms have passed
There's no more rainbows to be had
No silver linings shine down on me
But a monkey on a silver string ain't really all that bad
Just waitin' til my Jones comes down on me
