Well, what can I say? I had two kids, now gone, taken by some bee i itch that I yes was a HUGE mistake. well too bad there it is, and now you shake alone at night and you had to move and you look toward another day.

This was my song when I was just a kid losing my kids to a nother. nuff said, I parked close so I could still see my tiny fellas, and when I heard this after taking a small hotel room converted into monthly I thought it was up my alley.

I came to reference my chord chart for Paging Audrey the other day, and I can't find it here. Could it be that I never posted it? To me, this song is as good as anything Walter ever wrote, Steely Dan or otherwise. It's up there with Caves of Altamira, Gaucho, and Deacon Blues for me.

Let's start with this question: What is a song? Legally speaking, at least for pop music, a song is made up of melody, lyrics, and harmony. When Steely Dan, or any musician, wants to copyright a song, a lead sheet is submitted to convey the lyrics, melody, and harmony of that song. Likewise, when a song is a candidate for a Grammy or an Academy Award, it is actually the lead sheet of the song that is up for the award.

There are lyrics, there is a transcribed melody, and there are chord shapes noted above the lines to convey the harmony. For most musicians, this is enough to play the song. Indeed, this piece of paper, or something similar, is what a musician would likely use during a session recording or tracking a song.
