- Pic of WB from Australia 2007In Everything Else·December 19, 2022Posted on Facebook by Dave Sparkes, who said, "Some more images I shot from the crowd at the first Australian tour, Hunter Valley, 2007. This was an outdoor gig at Bimbadgen Vineyard, the stage basically a bowl looking out over a lovely grassy hill, a natural tier set up. You could crack a bottle of the cellar door wine and listen in style. First pic is Walter about to sing Haitian Divorce, with Jon Herrington in blue print blue."7160
- Madeline Peyroux - You Can't Do MeIn Brill Bldg Becker·March 15, 2018By Walter Becker, Larry Klein, & Madeline Peyroux You can't do me, you can't do me, you can't do me the way you did before You can't do me, you can't do me, you can't do me the way you did before 'Cause when you do, and when you do, 'cause when you do, you know I get so blue! When you do, and when you do, 'cause when you do, you know I get so blue and I go Down like a deep sea diver, out like a Coltrane tenor-man, Lost like a Chinese war, baby gone, gone, gone! Blewed like a Mississippi sharecropper, screwed like a high-school cheerleader, Tattooed like a popeyed sailorman − gone, gone, gone! I should have been, I should have been, I should have been a pair of ragged claws. I should have been, I should have been, I should have been a pair of ragged claws. And for a while, for just a while, for a good long while you'd see me smile, smile, smile I'd crawl the seas on my bony knees, no apologies for my brave new style. I wouldn't go Bust like an internet millionaire, boom like a Lebanese belly-dancer, Bang like a new year's firecracker − gone, gone, gone! I wouldn't get Bent like a rattan rockin' chair, blanked like a last place also ran, Burned like an Arkansas griddlecake − gone, gone, gone! I should have been, I should have been, I should have been a pair of ragged claws. And if I was, if I was, if I was then I'd complain no more. And for a while, for just a while, for a good long while you'd see me smile, smile, smile. I'd crawl the seas, on my bony knees, no apologies for my brave new style. I wouldn't get Wrecked like a rebel on a racetrack, jacked like a '51 Cadillac, Macked like a bunny in a mansion − gone, gone, gone! Spitooned like an Alabama 'backy wad, harpooned in a Melville sailor yard, Cartooned like a Charlie Brown Christmas card − gone, gone, gone! Schooled like a milk money bully whip, sued like a teenage downloader, Unglued like a bull in a china shop − gone, gone, gone! Cranked like a speed freak high-roller, yanked like a little league ball swatter, Spanked like a fly on a bar counter − gone, gone, gone! Duked like a pistol whipped card swapper, rebuked like a Bible Belt border crosser Juked like a payola chart topper − gone, gone, gone56403
- Love in the 4th (aka Lies I Can Believe)In Rarities & UnreleasedJanuary 10, 2020For some reason, I never really listened very often to the old tape-hiss-filled demo version of this song listed under Lies I Can Believe. Like, I thought it seemed good and all, but it never quite clicked. Now that I got to hear the fully fleshed out vision of the song, holy shit. NOW it clicked. The spacey arrangement with lots of air and tasty reverb really sells how heartbreaking this one is. And, Jesus, that sax! It's a shame the tape was pushed pretty hot when this was mixed down and made it a bit compressed and distorted, because this is a song that needs to breathe.63
- Calling All Auction SurvivorsIn Everything ElseNovember 9, 2020I just came across this thread. Great stories. I bought 3 guitars in the auction; The red B-Way (which was onstage at the Beacon when I was there in 2015), an O'Dell Blondie Tele clone, and the headless baritone guitar. I'm pleased to say all are being used in my recordings, and the B-Way has been on stage. I was actually on stage playing when I bought it, honestly. My phone was right there near me and in the middle of an old Drifters song I pulled the trigger. Since then I've bought 2 more guitars from that sale on the secondary market, A Bigsby BY-50 (I think) which is fabulous, and a Frye Model 1 in black, also fabulous. All now in England, all getting played by a musician who has been a fan since Can't Buy A Thrill came out. That's five down, six hundred and four to go. It's an inspiration.63

- Love in the 4th (aka Lies I Can Believe)In Rarities & UnreleasedJanuary 13, 2020Thank you Matt for Just Another Story; great post. I'll pick up on one detail here that resonates with yours - yes I did go listen to Surf... which I will on the slightest provocation. This song is played over a G pedal in the bass as the thrilling harmony shifts around above it (reharmonizing the bass rather than the usual other way around). As a tone picture, the unmoving bass is the ground, earth, and the guitar is something moving above, the clouds, a glider. Toward the conclusion, somehow, the song texture deconstructs, Walt's groaning embellishments, the sole bass fill (the ground relents, opens), and the chanting is eventually left bare, continuing, and pulling up into a final unison, a... G#! Which is then the dominant of the the next song Book of Liars, in C#. Perfect, chilling. Not all details of high production relate to lush sensual comfort; hard poetry ("... 'chute never opens") requires a different approach as in this masterpiece.48

- First Dan show without WBIn Everything Else·June 25, 2018I caught the Summer of Living Dangerously tour this past weekend at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, OH (Cleveland's summer concert venue). Two things really stood out to me. 1. They left an empty mic stand where Walter used to stand. 2. Hey Nineteen was now just another song in the set. I really enjoyed the show, but it was bittersweet without Walter.213394
- Much Has Been Done … (1990)In Rarities & Unreleased·May 2, 2019And now for something completely different: [link for mobile users] Much Has Been Done… (1990) Walter Becker © 1990/2019 Zeon LLC Much Has Been Done … Much Remains To Be Done He played around with this for a while, tweaking and fiddling it into several variations. Tempted to loop them together into one good trance track213976
