Walter was a voracious consumer of music and books; his collections were truly gargantuan. But I was always just as impressed by his librarys' scope and range as by their size.
It’s hard to encapsulate this range with any summary or description. But sometimes I encounter something like a simulacrum.
Here’s one I came across the other day: the contents of one of the CD-changer cartridges installed in the trunk of his old car.
So great to see The specials included .
I wonder if Walter added any music from The Beat..another terrific product of the Midlands Two Tone scene.
Mirror In The Bathroom is an absolute classic.
Oh wow! Thank you! As I was looking these over, I was thinking, “got it, need it, want it, hey, what’s this??”
A playlist of these tracks for anyone interested.
Love stuff like this... just to see what he enjoyed listening to is so enlightening. Mostly it's music that I would expect to see, based on what we know of his tastes, but there were a few surprises for me, like the David Gilmour and Bruce Hornsby records. I wonder if he also liked any of the Pink Floyd albums. One comparison I have always drawn is Gilmour's solo on Comfortably Numb and Carlton's on Third World Man. Both of those are so beautifully lyrical and poignant and they give me goose bumps every time I hear them.
