In the Brian Sweet book 'Steely Dan Reelin' in the Years' it mentions that Walter did play the solo on the Pretzel Logic track, it took a long time to piece together, often "an hour per bar", according to Roger Nichols.
I've just been listening to an interview with Walter on you tube reference 'Walter Becker The Rare Tracks Collection: Obscurities and Oddities' and at around 57:32 he is asked which songs he is playing guitar solo on and he mentions Pretzel Logic! :-)
I seem to remember a Gary Katz interview in which he mentioned that WB's solo was painstakingly cut together from many takes. Damned if I can find that now. Anyone else remember that?
Perfect description of how perfectly suited his solos were for the SD sound. For me, they really defined the SD sound. But I still do have a lingering question about the Pretzel Logic reference. I have no reason to doubt that it was indeed Walter playing lead guitar on that tune, but has that ever been documented anywhere? Like a quote from him or Donald, or a credit somewhere on a reissue? Or do we "just know"?
