- W. Becker , The bassist. In Everything Else·March 18, 2019Hi everyone, I'm a bassist, even though not a professional one, and i'm a big Steely Dan and Walter Becker fan and i consider Walter really an original and unique bassist, a bit underrated. I saw Steely Dan live 4 times: London 2000, Berlin and Lucca 2007, Rome 2009, and, as you certanly know, Walter played only guitars in those shows. So i come to the point: i wish i was able to see Walter play bass ! but not in those old videos from the period 1972/1974 but in more recent situations. I hope this (maybe strange ?!?) desire could be satisfied and i congratulate you for all your excellent work on Walter Becker Media P.S. I read somewhere an article, soon after the release of Circus Money, in wich Larry Klein, himself a great bassist, said that he had to convince Walter to play bass in the album because Walter thought that Larry had to do it. It was obvious that Larry really estimated Walter as a great bassist.113632
- Red GuitarIn Rarities & UnreleasedJuly 8, 2020The best way I can describe this song: it's just fun! It's got a familiar sounding chord progression, but then Walter throws in just enough difference to catch your attention. Bouncy and loose, I like it! Agree 1000% on the singing too. Then again, I might be biased because I like red guitars. Case in point, here's an old picture of my Strat.52
- Black DogIn Rarities & UnreleasedDecember 16, 2020Holy shit! Walter, belting out the blues with the best of them, who knew? Love this, naturally. Yes, Parks is awesome here. What a treasure. And I guess they had more than one drummer on those Signet sessions, eh? I think this is the first time I have heard Marotta with WB solo stuff. Thanks so much for this life-affirming music, @Moderator: D-Mod !!52
- Walter Becker Auction II (Online Only)In Everything ElseFebruary 22, 2020holy cow-- good for you! These pieces were used for sure ...I knew them from the home studio, where the pieces that were in use at Hyperbolic were moved to when Hyperbolic shut down. I'm especially impressed and happy you got whatever programs or banks or drivers you needed to get it all functional and... " I have to admit I have stared at these pieces of tape for an unhealthy amount of time." ...LOL. At some point, somebody said it wouldn't take much time to "clean up" the various makings and pieces of tape on the equipment and I said "are you Nucking FUTZ?!"52
- A MiniatureIn Everything ElseAugust 22, 2021Love stuff like this... just to see what he enjoyed listening to is so enlightening. Mostly it's music that I would expect to see, based on what we know of his tastes, but there were a few surprises for me, like the David Gilmour and Bruce Hornsby records. I wonder if he also liked any of the Pink Floyd albums. One comparison I have always drawn is Gilmour's solo on Comfortably Numb and Carlton's on Third World Man. Both of those are so beautifully lyrical and poignant and they give me goose bumps every time I hear them.52

- Madeline Peyroux - I'm All RightIn Brill Bldg Becker·March 15, 2018By Walter Becker & Larry Klein He made me laugh He made me cry He smoked his stoggies in bed But I'm all right I'm all right I've been lonely before I asked the boy for a few kind words He gave me a novel instead But I'm all right I'm all right I've been lonely before It's fine, it's OK It was wrong either way I just wanted to say There isn't much fun when you're drinking wine He got drunk, he fell down He threw a few of my things around But I'm all right I'm all right I've been lonely before I'd like to believe healthy cigarettes But I have to conceive that wherever you are You're still driving my car Sticks and stones break my bones But tears don't leave any scars So I'm all alright I'm all alright I've been lonely before Mm, I'm all alright I'm all alright I'm all alright Yeah He played solitaire in bed Used to blow bubbles in bed He sang Christmas songs in bed52291
- Another MiniatureIn Everything Else·March 21, 2025Back in the innocent days of, say, ’18, I thought to compile an index of Walter’s expansive library as its tomes and I commenced our brisk footrace towards that Great Pulpyard in the Sky. Then came the more sober days of, say, ’19, when I realized that bright BookBuddy (TM) idea was… just not gonna pan out. Next, the somewhat embittered-yet-still-pathetically-hopeful days of, say, ’21, when I thought: “Hey! — I’ll just photograph all the spines! Brilliant!” Probably don’t have to tell you how far that plan went. So in a deflated '25, with the Pulpyard ever closer, ^ ^ uh * * ... I guess ~ ~ … here are a few pics: One small shelf over one small desk in one small room of one small home. It’s as Walter left it, save for a single subsequent addition ... which you guys should spot in a flash, right? 🤠 [another random detrital miniature, posted earlier, is here]37357
